Not only is this game entertaining but it also takes you on a tour of the history of musical genres. You will learn more about three historical periods: Chicago in the 1940s during the Great Migration; the migration of Jamaicans to the US and the UK during the 1960s; and the forced migration from Syria during the Civil War in the 2010s. Each of these periods has a special location in the game, where you can find samples of their music. By combining these samples, you unlock more modern samples to make new music and learn about the connections between newer and older genres.
Musical Journey is specially made for VR. The entire experience is designed to emphasise the role of migration in the development of different musical genres.

The game’s really well put together, and visually it’s very realistic. Clever choice of music styles as well – they’re fun to build up and mix one instrument at a time, and it’s so interesting to learn about specific instruments and what makes music from different regions special. I really enjoyed it! Grigori
I’d never thought all the different music styles were so closely related. It really opened my eyes! Ave
It was my first interactive VR experience. It took a while to get the hang of the different instruments, but once I did, everything was cool. I learned a lot about where rhythms and instruments and singing styles come from. And even though I don’t play an instrument myself, it was great fun making my own music for a couple of hours! Diana
I got to run a VR workshop yesterday and it was amazing! A total of 104 students took part throughout the day, and they all said it was one of the best things they’d experienced in a long, long time. They were all really chuffed with it, and when I asked them how it had gone they only had good things to say about it. They enjoyed the workshop enormously! Estonian teacher
It was a new experience for me and a lot of fun. It provided a good overview of the origins of music and created all sorts of new associations for me. Inga
I had a fantastic time! It was exciting and really engaging. The story of music’s so fascinating. Pille
It was a really interesting experience that’s sure to pass the positive impact of migration on to kids through music. Kai
It was a brilliant experience! We’d love to get that sort of VR set-up for our school as well. Anne
