Applications to EstMUN 2021 are being accepted!

We are happy to announce the topics of Estonian Model United Nations 2021 and begin the process of collecting applications!

EstMUN will happen on June 10-13 (either in Tamsalu High School or online according to current restrictions) and we expect applications from students aged 15-19, who care about international relations, environment, human rights, sustainable development, diplomacy, journalism, changing the world and practising English in a diverse and safe environment. To get an overall idea of the event, see this poster.

In case of a physical event, underage students are expected to be accompanied by their teachers. Teachers who are interested in the format and want to see it in action, are also welcome to come to the event as observers. Teachers can observe the work of the committees, discuss it among each other and give feedback to the organizers.

The topics of EstMUN 2021 are the following:

  • UNHCR:
“Improving refugees’ living standards through the implementation of new and adaptative technologies”
  • COP of UNCCC:
“Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation”
  • ICJ:
    “Case of Nisour Square Massacre”
  • UNSC:
“Children in Armed Conflicts: Civil War in South Sudan”
  • MEDIA:
“Creating a narrative: How media ownership and personal bias influences public discourse”

Students can choose up to three topic priorities in their application to help the organizers put the committees together. Applications are being accepted until the 10th of May. We kindly ask the teachers to register to the event using the same application form.

The organizers will send topic, country and homework to confirmed participants on the 11th of May so that all participants have enough time to prepare their roles.

On May 3-7 there will be thematical infohours held by the organizers to introduce the topics and committees in more detail. We recommend the youth to participate in these infohours to make an informed decision about their topic priority. Registration to infohours is open HERE.

We also recommend you to watch introductory videos about EstMUN on Maailmakool Youtube to help you better understand the format and find answers to common questions.

In case of extra questions please contact UNESCO ASPnet Coordinator in Estonia Viktoria Lepp: unescoschools@mondo.org.ee.
